Legislate at your own risk

Selfishness and greed are fundamentally human and constitutionally protected I might add. As is laziness, slothfulness, promiscuity and euphorianism. I do not fear these unseemly human traits, they have been around forever, no, I fear some group of people convincing the ignorant, the emotional or the irrational to vote away freedoms to combat one of the above for the sake of our own well being, whether the reason is for national security, religious or even global warming.

Our view of stewardship cannot be forced on another beyond obvious public safety. I may feel that we should force everyone to move to fluorescent bulbs in the house and legislate the banning of incandescent. You might decide that single parenthood rates have ruined this country and mandate tougher legal responsibilities on absent parents and decide to make divorce tougher. That guy might decide that all crops must be organic as the chemical cocktail we are spewing is surely ruining the world even though we cannot find the science yet.

I am for none of the above. Change your own bulbs, influence others to make the same decision. Stay married and support and love your children and encourage others to do the same. Eat organic food, extra cost and all, and persuade others to join you.

Legislate none of it. Be your own steward, set a good example, use your influence. This is modern stewardship. I will not advocate going down a path that will lead to massive central government control and ultimately oppression. It took nearly 10,000 years to get one government somewhat off the backs of their people and I do not want to give that freedom back because someone says we are in crisis.

There will be 10,000 more crisis’s in the next 10,000 years so we should keep any one crisis in perspective.
